Drain Patch Repairs and Re-lining
This service involves an engineer carrying out a permanent structural pipe repair within a localised region (patch), or a major repair to the pipeline. Pipe repairs are recommended when fractures, cracks, or joint displacement is detected first, usually via a CCTV survey. Pipe fractures can lead to root ingress and water infiltration, both likely to worsen with time. Fractures can also cause other complications such as erosion of the soil surrounding the pipe.
The traditional way to deal with problems is to excavate within the region of a pipe fracture. However, we prefer to use no dig technology first to repair your damaged pipes as it is less expensive and more efficient. For example, we can use specialist rotational pipeline cutting tools that match the diameter of your pipeline, effectively cutting away anything within its path as it travels through your pipeline. Not only does such cutting tools remove all forms of plant root, it can also cut out a collapsed liner.
Once the pipeline is clear, it can then be relined via a 2 part resin impregnation method. This involves inserting a sleeve into your pipeline that is inflated to take the shape of the pipe. The resin then flows around the outside of this sleeve and left to harden. Once cured the inflatable bladder is then removed creating in a newly formed pipe within the fracture region of the old pipe. Below is a video explaining drain pipe patch repairs, from the National Association of Drainage Contractors (NADC) website.
